Coffee Liverpool: Best Independent Coffee Shops
"If you’re on the hunt for a delicious breakfast in an independent café with homemade bagels, you’ve found it. Not only is it good value for money but the bagels and their surroundings will give all your followers breakfast envy on their morning commute. With sweet wooden furniture and houseplants and rainbow bagels, this spot is a good taster for the rest of the Instagrammable spots in Liverpool has to offer."
"If you love a bagel, and what’s not to love, then these guys are the experts. Up on Nelson Street, between Chinatown and the Bombed Out Church, The Bagelry is open from 10am to 3pm for all things bagel (and donuts if that’s your thing). Try the bacon stack, the oozy double fried egg, the hash stack or the kimchi mushroom melt."
"It’s the perfect place to head for your favourite round shaped baked good. With different flavours made fresh everyday, you can eat in or take away for your afternoon snack. They also make rainbow bagels for the weekends… we’ll see you there."
"If you’re on the look out for fresh artisan coffee in minimalist, Nordic-inspired surroundings, then stark, hipster hangout Takk is probably the place for you. Undoubtedly a NQ favourite, the coffee at Takk is just as good as the atmosphere, serving ‘North Projekt’ – a Bristol-roasted Nordic Style espresso that forms the basis of all their drinks. It’s definitely a brew to keep the mind sharp, but I heard they feature regular guest espresso too!"
"Pop into Takk on a weekday, and it looks like an Apple store that’s let itself go. It’s the preferred working space for media types in the Northern Quarter, a testament to its top notch offering of brews and bites. Coffee fans should also head to Takk's latest launch on Oxford Road's own indie shopping site Hatch, where where they serve brews shoulder-to-shoulder with a stellar line up of local food traders."
"Serving a range of single origin coffees that change on a weekly basis and dedicated to sourcing some of the best coffees available in Europe, Takk is freshly-brewing cups to go from its Tarrif Street site in the heart of the Northern Quarter only at weekends, so make sure to swing by if you’re passing. 6 Tariff Street, Manchester, M1 2FF. You can find more information via the Takk website here."
"Also known as ‘The Egg”, this enchanting and Grimm’s inspired restaurant is a must go for vegans and vegetarians. In plain sight on Newington; tucked away behind a purple and gold swirled door, lies the morning part café and part gallery and night performance space with a variety of nourishing meals, large mugs of coffee, homemade cakes and the famous vegan breakfast. Although the opening hours have been reduced, the atmosphere, quality and beauty of the Egg are still very prominent."
"The Egg Cafe can be found just off Bold Street on Newington Street. Not only is it one of Liverpool’s premier vegetarian and vegan restaurants (they did vegan before it was hipster), it is also in a beautiful airy loft space of an old Victorian warehouse building. It also offers fabulous views of the city centre."
"The Egg Cafe is a Liverpool institution for vegetarians and vegans. The café serves vegan soups, daily specials, vegan spicy beanburger, salads, quiche, and more. The menu is currently being revamped."
"Heroes Café – Homemade burgers, pies, soup, lasagne, chilli, curries and many more delicious dishes. They are also expanding selection of their Vegan dishes."
"A proper greasy spoon-style brekkie, The Koffee Pot is a lively spot for breakfast just on the edge of the Northern Quarter – perfect for curing that pesky hangover on a Saturday morning. With a bit of hair of the dog available and some good old fry ups, you’re sure to leave full of beans (literally!). The place has a true English cafe vibe to it, with the menu featuring breakfast cocktails, a whole list of fry ups, classic breakfast sandwiches and Eggs Benedict dishes with a twist for the fancier of guests."
"Impossible to miss thanks to the bright orange sign, Koffee Pot has a slight grunge feel to it and a legion of dedicated fans. Touring musicians flock here for their breakfasts; the bacon butties are legendry in Manchester and cost a mere £2!. Looking like it is stuck in the 1960’s with graffiti on the walls, leather seats, and squeezy sauces, many people peer in and walk past, onto somewhere a little more ‘hip’ but this is a big mistake!"
"Why: This popular spot gets filled up quickly, so it’s worth planning an early breakfast if you have your heart set on dining here. Having been open for over a decade this small cafe has maintained its popularity by serving up good, hearty breakfast dishes. Think fry ups, pancakes and even a breakfast poutine which combines beef dripping chips with sausage gravy, cheese curds, baon, poached eggs and hollandaise."
"The clue is in the name in this Northern Quarter favourite - and Terrace now has three rooftop terraces to choose from. They're quirky-cool, with trees growing out of industrial metal planters and empty beer kegs hanging from the walls. There's a full menu of fruity cocktails and local beers, and, best of all, you can order food from nearby restaurants such as Yard & Coop and Noi Quattro straight to your table."
"Cool and casual, Terrace NQ are all about the big breakfast plates, serving a full English all day. If bacon, sausages and black pudding isn't your cup of tea, the spot has lighter dishes including eggs benedict, or for those with a sweet tooth, a wide range of homemade cakes."
"Decked out with quirky vintage furniture, old gymnasium flooring and exposed brick walls, Terrace NQ is one of Manchester's best rooftop bars. A true hidden gem, this suntrap serves plenty of homemade pizzas and local craft beers to keep hunger pans at bay."
"Southport is one of our great traditional seaside resorts with miles of open stunning sand dunes and award winning beaches. A scene of tranquil parks and gardens by day that transform into a vibrant nightspot when the sun goes down."
"By far one of the Northern Quarter’s most unique hangouts in all its brightly-coloured glory, you can pop by Siop Shop this weekend to get yourself that quick caffeine fix, and perhaps a sweet doughnut treat too if that takes your fancy. 53 Tib Street, Manchester M4 1LS. You can find more information via the Siop Shop website here."
"Dessert fans visiting Manchester shouldn’t have without trying the best doughnuts in town. Mine was filled with blackcurrant cheesecake (minus the base) and was probably the best £2 I’ve ever spent. Where: SiOP SHOP cafe on Tibb Street and at the Makers Market held in the Northern Quater on the second Sunday of each month."
"Serving up coffee, doughnuts and more, Siop Shop has made the decision to offer a collection of outdoor tables for walk-ins only on a first-come-first-served basis from this week, so you can find menus, opening times and more information on the website here."
