"If it’s ice cream that’s tickling your taste-buds, climb the staircase in Afflecks to the first floor to discover the most eclectic selection of flavours imaginable. Chances are that you’ve seen Ginger’s ice cream van at one of the city’s many events, festivals or markets, but for an ice-cream hit whenever you fancy, their base in Afflecks is a dessert lover’s heaven. With flavours including baked apple sorbet, black treacle and parkin, and the iconic Chorlton crack, you’re not going to find bland vanilla here."
"One of the best ice cream parlours in Manchester, Ginger's Comfort Emporium is a Northern Quarter favourite handing out dairy and vegan scoops all year round. With specials including Campari and coconut, Eccles cake and Chorlton Crack (peanut butter and salted caramel), these frozen spoonfuls are always at their best when served in sandwich form. We all scream for these quirky ice cream sandwiches."
"You’ve probably seen the chic and trendy “ice cream van for the grown-ups. This dessert wagon is mainly to be found after dark, when the children are safe in bed, roaming the streets of south Manchester.”. And now luckily for us they have a permanent residence in the Northern Quarter, on the first floor Afflecks Palace."

"Formerly known as William Sicilian, Sicilian NQ is the first and only true Sicilian restaurant in Manchester – offering up hearty, traditional dishes that aim to encapsulate the culture of Sicily. Think Sicilian wines and beers, antipasti, pasta, cannoli and even lovely traditional Italian desserts that go down extremely well with a good old cup of coffee. Sicilian NQ, 14 Turner St, M4 1DZ."
"Formerly known as William Sicilian Street Food, this authentic Sicilian restaurant popped up in the Northern Quarter earlier this year – renamed and reworked as Sicilian NQ. The lovely little restaurant hones in on the idyllic region’s homely food, bringing dishes such as arancini, cannoli, cipollini, pasta and more to our rainy city. Sicilian NQ, 14 Turner St, M4 1DZ."
"An abundance of choice in flavour is available to have in a cone, on waffles, or on a cake of your own choosing. If you ever head to gelato passion, make sure you try out their peanut butter cake with raspberry sorbet. Kind of like a PB&J sandwich deconstructed into ice cream!"
"With not one, but two shops in Chester, The Barista’s are taking over with their great menu and equally as great coffee and drinks. Found in one of Chester’s historic buildings on Watergate Street, as well as in Chester’s Bus Interchange, The Barista’s provide Chester’s travellers, as well as the relaxed brunchers, with a caffeine hub like no other."
"This café in Chester is well-known for its coffee, but its real strength is the completely unpretentious atmosphere. The kitchen cooks up simple food for breakfast and lunch (toasties, pancakes, eggs on toast) served by friendly staff who won’t judge you should you be hungover and walk in wearing something resembling your pyjamas."
"Hidden behind a curtain in a corner of the grand lobby of the Midland Hotel, there’s more than a feel of Alice in Wonderland as you are transported through mirrored doors into the dining room of The French. Soft grey and sage green tones give everything a muted luxurious feel and there are two huge cylindrical chandeliers which throw light back and forth via the mirrored panelling around the room. Chef Adam Reid’s cooking is inventive and playful but executed with real precision and flair."
"The Midland Hotel, 16 Peter Street, Manchester, Greater Manchester, M60 2DS. Adam Reid has kept The French at the top of Manchester’s restaurant tree for many years, and while the grand dining room is opulent, the vibe feels less formal and the food continues to impress."
"The Academy Restaurant is a hidden gem for tourists in Liverpool. The staff prepare amazing British and European food in mouth-watering flavours. They also serve a nice selection of wine and beer."
"Find Down The Hatch in a trendy basement on Duke Street, with vegetarian and vegan junk food – including ‘chicken’ wings, loaded fries, and vegan ‘bratwurst’ – that will prove plant-based doesn't always have to mean healthy salads. The restaurant loves dogs as much as you do, with its favourite four-legged visitors often featuring on its Instagram page so make sure your pup is feeling photogenic, just in case!. Basement, 62 Duke Street, L1 5AA"
